Sunday Musings

For some reason it didn't feel quite kosher (especially for a Presbyterian) to use the Sabbath to continue posting about the Big Birthday Bash yesterday - - - - that, and the fact that I haven't gotten all the pictures downloaded yet. So, I'm just going to have an un-ostentatious entry today. A peaceful, feel-good post. Imagine classical music playing in the background. Imagine a soft wind blowing through your hair. Imagine you sitting on a cushy couch sipping your favorite beverage out of a beautiful goblet. (Does anyone else think some drinks taste better in a certain glass?)

OK, Are you nice and placid, serene, and tranquil? Are you even still awake?!!

Today was good. Jacqueline and Nathan were at church with us....their dogs safely kenneled in our basement. I love having my big kids back on my pew(s).
The sermon was excellent. The snacks were great. I knew the tunes to all the hard hymns us Presbyterians like to sing.

And I still can't get over the fact that I live Two Minutes from my church. After 11 years of rushing to get ready, driving 40 minutes, rushing home to rest, rushing back for the p.m. service, I think it will be awhile before I take a relaxed Sunday morning for granted.

And if that wasn't enough to "call Sunday a delight", Jacqueline and Hunter made a belated birthday lunch for their Dad (my HOH :) They made Marlboro Man's Favorite Sandwich from http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2007/06/marlboro_mans_f/ -and I promise you, they taste as good as this picture looks!

And actually, in my totally and completely unbiased motherly opinion, ours looked even better than the Pioneer Woman's. This would be the same Pioneer Woman who gets over 10,000 ....yes, you read that right - my keyboard is not stuck on the 0 key -Ten Thousand comments some days. (I promised my daughter I would not solicit comments anymore, so this is not a solicitation. I'm just stating a fact. The woman gets 10,000 comments and I can't even break into double digits by begging, having my own children comment, and commenting myself!)

It might be because she gives away things. Big, expensive things.

And she does offer cooking advice and recipes with clear, detailed pictures.

And she somehow makes cooking sidesplittingly funny.

I just might start looking around here for something to give away.

And here's some cooking advice for you: Teach your kids to cook. The lunch my "kids" made today was to die for. And if we ate those Marlboro Man sandwiches very often we surely would die an early death.

Especially if we ate them with this http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2008/02/apple_dumplings/(which we DID!, even down to the vanilla ice cream melting beside the buttery apple dumplets.)

Like I said, it was a good day.

After lunch we waddled off to a piano recital for three of our children. It was supposed to be five of them, but two of them figured out how to injure themselves enough that they had legitimate reasons not to perform. Justin's arm is still in a cast and Mary-Faith jammed her left thumb playing soccer so she couldn't play any of the chords. I told our teacher we needed to hurry up and get this recital over with before I had a house full of impaired kids.

The recital was pleasant. There were 17 students that played, but it went amazingly fast since many of them were newbies (the kind that play the 15 second Indian-sounding songs.)

I want to end with a quote from my Pastor from today's sermon. He preached on 3rd John, which is a letter contrasting two men. The Pastor was trying to emphasize the importance of believing only the truth about God.

"If you believe wrong things, your feet will follow soon enough."

Good, huh? (And I doubt very seriously if you'll get that kind of deep thinking from The Pioneer Woman. And my blog is calorie-free. I'm just saying...)

Let me tell you from experience: now that you like 2 minutes from your church, you will nearly ALWAYS be late.

That's how it works. Sorry. :-)

My daughter was at the recital. She said she saw you. Just to add credibility to your stories so know one thinks you are making them up.

don't be too hard on yourself about comments. I've "known" Ree (of Pioneer Woman fame) since she began homeschooling her first punk and when she first started blogging, it really was just those of us from the message board we frequented. I'll try to send the rest of the pics that didn't go through sometime today, but i'm off to take a teen to babysit....

How fun to read about your great day! Thanks for sharing. :)

Btw, about comments, I checked out Pioneer Woman's site and saw that she got in the 400 comment range. But 10,000??? Obviously, I'm missing the posts that got that many...or else you were joking and I missed the JK abbreviation. :)

I'm not a regular reader of Pioneer Woman so maybe I'm just clueless about it all!

In adherence to the Truth In Blogging Act of 2008, I checked the Pioneer Woman site to be sure I wasn't slightly exagerating about the 10,000 comments.

Davene must've been looking at the comments for the apple dumplings, which were only a measly 400 (slacker post that it was....), but this one
http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/page/2/
is the 10,000 post blog (where she is giving a way a Kitchen Aide).

Fellow bloggers, let's just make ourselves feel better and believe that some of those comments were from the same 10-20 people entering the contest over and over and over and over and over and over.....

Thanks for the info! I stand corrected. :)

Hey, you're in the double digits today with comments!

I'll see how many more comments I can leave for you before the day is out, OK? ;)

When I entered PW's contest for the new camera (maybe you should've tried for that!) and photo printer I was one of 13,000. Great post...just what I love hearing about: everyday fun stuff that I used to see in person (and what everyone else who never lived there thinks they wish they could see in person). ;)
