Comment Plagiarism

Once again, we approach the subject of Your Comments. I just don't know when to stop, do I? :) The place where you leave a comment is in the comment box - or in your mind...which apparently is where most of you seem to like to keep them. And that's alright, really it is. I have Made Peace with never knowing whether I am talking to thin air or to real people.

However, after reading my blog post of May 7th, with the enclosed link to the wonderful, insightful, must-read post about Why Bloggers Need Comments, several newbie blog readers mentioned that they would be glad to comment if they only knew what to say. Well, it just so happens that I love helping people when it ends up benefiting me. So, I have gathered together some sample comments -taken from real blogs that I got sucked into reading for hours and hours today (in the name of Blog Research). So next time you read something I write and you feel "led" to comment, but the exact words elude you, just cut and paste any of these straight-from-your-heart comments. The italicized words are the pirated comments.

I hope you have a wonderful time with your cousin...I'll miss your daily snippets though!

I like the thought of you 'missing' me, so feel free to use this one. However, with my Chronic Inability to Be Concise, no one would ever call my writing "snippets". You might want to change that to "daily epistles".

So pretty!

This is a very versatile comment that I can see you using for a variety of things on my blog. My house. My children. My hair....

How beautiful, well done... and I have to say, what a fantastic photographer Giles is...wow!

Again, this one seems appropriate for most of my blog posts. I don't know who Giles is, but don't let that stop you from "borrowing" this comment.I particulary like the use of multiple adjectives, along with an interjection. You can almost never go wrong with the word "wow!" in reference to something I've written.

you both look so tan, i hate you!

Well, what can I say? It seems a little strong, what with the H word, but I might overlook it considering the context. :)

Looks like you had a fun day!

Notice how the comment can be short and to the point. A no brainer, if you will.

We went on a hike yesterday. The weather was gorgeous (and of course there's a chance of snow tonight/tomorrow) and then went for lunch and ice cream. It was a great day!

The snow statement might be a smallish clue that this comment was not sent from Florida, but what I want you to notice is how Jana uses the comment section to start talking about herself. I prefer the comments on my blog to Focus On Me - but if it makes my comment tally go up, then I suppose I could stand to hear a little about your petty life. JK. (Does anyone else realize what a farce it is when someone writes...JK?)

Wendy says:
Gardenias might work; I know they like afternoon shade. Although I have to admit I’ve only had one that actually survived in Georgia, so I may not be the best person to advise you.

This person is using the comment section to give gardening advice. But in a humble, "I realize you're supposed to be wiser than me" way. I like that in a comment-er.

Karen says:
This sounds like a very cool book! Thanks for letting us know about it.

An example of a near-perfect comment. It's short (unlike my actual blog posts). It contains an exclamation mark (and you know how I love to use those!!!)...And it's grateful. It's all one could ask for in a blog comment.
Use this one often. Just change the noun (book) to whatever subject I'm talking about.

Kelly says:
Now that is ONE GOOD HUSBAND!!!!! :-)
Have a great weekend!

This comment goes a tad overboard, what with the CAPITALIZATION, five (count 'em) exclamation marks, and the smiley face. But, let me make this VERY CLEAR, I'd rather have an overboard comment than no comment!!!!!!!!!! :)

Sister Honey Bunch says:
You are certainly bringing back some memories. My sisters and I got together this weekend and they reminded me of a couple successes I had in school. I had completely forgotten about them.
And PS, I love the way you write. It makes me happy.

I don't know. I have mixed emotions about this one. She averts the focus to herself, (which seems a little odd considering she's some kind of Nun) -but then she redeems herself with that PS- (get it? The nun redeems herself! I crack myself up...especially when I blog after midnight like this.)

Oh goodness. More HUGS (and wine).

Normally, this would kind of seem fakey to me. HUGS?...but then he/she adds that sincere offer in the parentheses. Makes me wish he/she wasn't anonymous so I could take him/her up on the offer.

Better end there. This is at least enough to get you started - and leave you excuseless for the future.

I hope you know I'm only trying to help.

It's not really about me.

I hardly even notice whether or not I have any comments. (JK)

Dearest Sistah Lea-
I can tell you were really trying, so you get an A+ for effort, but we must be fair and leave a little room for the other commenters. Perhaps I should put a word limit on the comments. When I find that course on conciseness, you can come take it with me. (JK)

Ok, fine, you've guilted me enough so that I'm leaving a comment. I found your blog via Lea's, and since I am incredibly nosey (even regarding people I barely know), I've been reading it all month. Ok, that's my one and only comment, but now you know you have a reader in Tampa.

Oh, and HUGS (and wine)... i am baptist like Lea, but i am a bad one.

The more I read your entries, the more impressed I am by your intelligence and wit! (feel free to plagiarize as needed)

Being one who thrives on comments as well, I can't wait to read the blog entry about the recital. Today, I have read ALL of your entries for May, since I was so busy recital-planning, I didn't previously have that sort of time. I do truly enjoy your posts (especially your comments in parentheses). Keep it coming...

This blog a day in May is so amusing and I told Lea that I feel quite certain you two are doing this purely for my entertainment benefit, so thank you!!!
Your children are beautiful and hard workers, loving and kind; your husband complements you well (assuring you get the full spotlight as any good husband should) and you are witty and wise and I would love to have you over for some wine--I am Catholic, this is allowed.....
Blessings,
Tracy

Though it seems your blog is on comment overload today, I didn't want to miss the opportunity to let you know that your name came up at MNO last night....was it gossip? Hmmm...maybe you will never know unless someone needs to apologize to you...

Just thought you should know.
