Finding Sabbath Rest

Sundays are for worship with fellow believers, delighting in God's care and provision, sweet tea with Sunday lunch (one way we set the day apart), and resting.

With five boys sharing one room, they like to scope out a quieter Sunday spot, grab their pillows (and other snuggly paraphernalia) and head for a tranquil spot. The hammock and the trampoline are two coveted havens.

And then after rest, but before dessert, they need to sweat a little (in preparation for going back to sit still at the p.m. service.)

Isaiah 58:12-14 (English Standard Version)

 And your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt;
   you shall raise up the foundations of many generations;
you shall be called the repairer of the breach,
   the restorer of streets to dwell in.
  "If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath,
   from doing your pleasure on my holy day,
and call the Sabbath a delight
   and the holy day of the LORD honorable;
if you honor it, not going your own ways,
   or seeking your own pleasure, or talking idly;
then you shall take delight in the LORD,
    and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth;
I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father,
    for the mouth of the LORD has spoken."

Oh, and I also REALLY like the new background. You should keep that one around for a while. Makes me want a cup of coffee and a doughnut...and I don't even drink coffee :)

Debbie, with 3 boys of my own, this is probably a scene that I have to look forward to sometime in the future as well :) Your children are precious. It was great to hear you speak at the TEACH meeting and I have been feeling lost about where to start with character building since we are new to homeschooling, but the resources you gave in your last 'tips' post are great and we are going to start with those! Just gotta find where I will work it into our day!
Blessings,
Brooke

One of my favorite verses...we use that one here, too. Making Sunday lunch a feast and taking the time to ride our bikes or car on the heights of the land. Now if I could just get them to NAP.

Beautiful post! But Ouch! A little convicting to me!

Your sons are growing up to be strong young men! I know that you have been such a blessing to them and they have surely stretched, I mean BLESSED your life! :) What treasure awaits you in heaven for investing your life into the lives of all of your children!

Thanks for sharing your daily life, your wit and your wisdom on your wonderful blog!

Hi Debbie,

I am not officially a follower...yet..just found you today. But as I read...along with 2 of my brood...I said out loud...I hafta follow this woman!

Sabbath, Character readings and studies, homeschooling, Florida, lots of kids....all resonates with me! I have been homeschooling for 17years, have 5 kiddos, love the Sabbath, and am originally from Florida!

Love your candid, no nonsense approach to homeschooling. So much easier than painting the moon for a picture when some can only see the mud puddle. That's when we make mud puddle soup and look for our reflection in it.

Be Blessed,

Sandy

Thanks for following. The journey's nicer with kindred spirits on the path.
